BANX

aka Mike Banks

CV

Banx also known as Mike Banks, is a Brisbane artist. Mike offers contemporary original canvas art for the office and home for rent or sale. Banx is especially inspired by his love of the vivid colours and intense light of the Australian landscape, and in 2013 he joined a dedicated 11 day art trip to Ruby Gap National Park (135kms east of Alice Springs) for inspiration. Banx exhibits annually in Brisbane and his many and varied works are held in private and public collections throughout Australia, New Zealand, USA and Europe.

Mike has illustrated and drawn for most of his life. While following a line of several generations of artists in his family, Banx has most of all developed his own styles. Most noteworthy are his pure abstracts, semi-real and traditional art. Mike uses a pallet knife for a scratchy edgy look and brushes for a more traditional modern impressionism look.

Banx studied lithography at Te Kowhai Print Trust in New Zealand, and in addition, taught abstract art at The Summer Arts Retreat at The University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba.

He is currently Partner and Artist in residence at Moving Canvas Gallery, Brisbane. Moving Canvas Gallery is a gorgeous former church of the Nazarene’s on Stafford Road, where he specialises in site-specific commissions for Offices, Boardrooms and foyers. Most noteworthy is the 6metre tryptich for the 333 Ann St building foyer (shown above).
